blomus alpha decanting carafe

hand-blown glass, stainless steel

The blomus Alpha was designed by Paul Flowers for the German brand blomus, founded in 1961 on the principle that utility and beauty are not competing values. The carafe aerate and filters wine simultaneously as it is poured in — a stainless steel collar at the neck removes cork and sediment while oxygen does its work on the way down. A thumb groove pressed into the glass body makes the pour instinctive.

It is the kind of object that changes how a dinner feels without anyone quite being able to say why. Wine arrives at the table already opened up, in a vessel that earns attention. blomus builds to an uncompromising quality standard — the glass is hand-blown, the steel precision-fitted. It is not a decanter for special occasions. It is a decanter for any bottle worth opening.

selected because it makes every bottle of wine — not just the serious ones — worth the extra thirty seconds of attention.
